Selena Gomez started on television at an early age, with a role on the show “Barney & Friends” in 2001. This is where she met Demi Lovato, who she is best friends with today. She guest-starred on various Disney Channel shows such as “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” and “Hannah Montana.” She finally became a Disney star in 2007 when she landed the role of Alex Russo on “Wizards of Waverly Place,” which was on the air for four seasons, with the series finale airing on January 6th, 2012. She also starred in the films “Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie” and “Princess Protection Program” in 2009, both of which are Disney Channel Original Movies.
Recently she starred in the movies “Ramona and Beezus” (2010), and Monte Carlo (2011). It is rumored that she will play a lead role in the upcoming film “Spring Breakers,” about a group of college girls that resort to a life of crime to pay for their spring break vacation.
Selena Gomez is an only child, and recently released news that her mother experienced a miscarriage on December 16th, 2011. This news caused her to cancel several concerts which she was scheduled to appear at.
Selena is also a strong player in the music industry, and is the lead singer of the band “Selena Gomez and the Scene.” The band has three albums: Kiss & Tell, A Year Without Rain, and When the Sun Goes Down. Three of her singles have reached platinum status: “Naturally,” “Who Says,” and “Love You Like a Love Song.”
Selena Gomez co-hosted the MuchMusic Video Awards in June 2011, and hosted the MTV EMAs in Belfast, Ireland in November 2011.
